Basic Research in Cardiology is an official journal of the DGK. It publishes timely original research and review articles from the fields of molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, pharmacology, physiology, and pathology, covering all aspects of the structure and function of the heart and cardiovascular system.
The journal will be led by one Editor in Chief, supported by a team of Associate Editors and an Editorial Board appointed by the EiC in close consultation with Springer and the DGK.
The EiC’s key responsibilities include:
- responsibility for the scientific content of the journal,
acquiring, evaluating, and coordinating manuscripts in a timely manner,
- main point of contact for communication with the Editorial Board, reviewers, and authors,
- building strong relationships with experts in the field to attract high-quality submissions,
- commissioning thematic collections on topics relevant to the international community of experimental cardiologists,
- adhering to standards of good editorial practice, publication ethics, and the publisher’s code of conduct.
The ideal candidate:
- has a clear vision for the journal’s development, growth, and international visibility,
- is actively engaged in medically-relevant basic scientific research in the cardiovascular field,
- is a member of the German Cardiac Society (DGK)
- ideally has prior editorial experience (as editor, associate editor, or active editorial board member of a peer reviewed journal),
- demonstrates leadership, strategic thinking, and strong communication skills,
- is expected to collaborate with Springer on the strategic development of the journal,
- is prepared to work within Springer standard infrastructure and processes.
The term begins January 1, 2027, and ends December 31, 2030, with the possibility of two additional two year extensions.
The successful candidate will be appointed by Springer in consultation and agreement with the DGK.
