Young DGK Basic Science Task Force

Mission Statement

Novel preventive and therapeutic approaches in cardiovascular medicine require a close interaction between clinicians involved in patient care and scientists working in laboratories. This close collaboration is necessary to identify the medical and clinical needs of patients and to setup cutting-edge research programs to close these knowledge gaps. A wide-spanning infrastructure is needed to ensure that emerging scientists can align their research with real-world challenges in cardiovascular medicine.

The Young DGK Basic Science Task Force’s mission is to provide a home base and support for young scientists in basic cardiovascular research. Building the foundation for the next generation of basic science DGK members involves a multi-faceted approach aimed at fostering growth and collaboration among young scientists. Establishing a collaborative environment early in their careers can prevent communication gaps and promote a seamless integration of basic and clinical sciences. Beyond, we aim to offer training by clinical and basic science experts in the form of webinars and focus conferences like the Young DGK Basic Science Meeting. This training is crucial for bridging the gap between basic and clinical science. By providing a platform for young cardiovascular scientists to network, exchange ideas, and interact with clinician scientists, we can cultivate a vibrant community of interdisciplinary collaboration. Enhancing the visibility of young basic scientists is another critical aim of our work. Recognizing and promoting their contributions can inspire continued innovation and encourage more young researchers to join the field. Additionally, career support and discussions on funding options are vital to sustain their research efforts and professional development.

Ultimately, building a home for young cardiovascular basic scientists involves creating an environment where they feel supported, connected, and empowered to make significant contributions to cardiovascular science and medicine. This holistic approach not only advances individual careers but also propels the entire field.

The young DGK welcomes young medical scientists across career levels, including students.
